Eric Carle is an award-winning illustrator and author known internationally for his distinctive and innovative picture books for young children. His best-known work, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has eaten its way into the hearts of literally millions of children all over the world (it has been translated into 62 languages and sold over 46 million copies). He has illustrated more than 70 books, with such titles as The Very Lonely Firefly, The Very Quiet Cricket, The Very Busy Spider, and many more. The themes of his stories are usually drawn from his extensive knowledge and love of nature —a world of infinite transformation that is interesting to and loved by children.
The secret of Eric Carle’s books’ appeal lies in the author’s intuitive understanding of and respect for children. Besides being beautiful and entertaining, his books always offer children the opportunity to learn something about the world around them.
